Back in May 2014, Tel Aviv joined the coworking revolution when Mindspace launched in their neighbourhood. It all started when Co-founders (and childhood friends) Dan Zakai and Yotam Alroy noticed a shift in how people work, and so, set out to create stylish spaces for businesses of all sizes that go way beyond the traditional office.
“I have always been passionate about initiating and building meaningful businesses with a sense of creativity, design, and innovation. Coworking spaces offer the perfect platform to achieve all of those components” —Dan Zakai, Co-Founder of Mindspace
Just over three years later, Mindspace landed in London—putting Whitechapel and Shoreditch on the global Mindspace map, alongside Berlin, Warsaw, Munich and more. Today, they have spaces in 14 cities across the world and an ever-growing community of entrepreneurs, innovators and creatives.
So, what is Mindspace?
Mindspace is a global network of boutique coworking and flex workspaces for teams of all sizes—whether you’re a freelancer, solo entrepreneur, startup, scaleup or huge multinational business.
“What was once the solution for freelancers, entrepreneurs and early-stage startups, is now competing in the market for corporations and large companies who choose to place their innovative, project, and R&D teams away from company headquarters. As we grow throughout the world, we also see the growing demand from global enterprises for business suites and entire floors at our spaces. World-leading brands like Microsoft, Siemens, Samsung, SAP, Booking.com, Barclays Bank, Lufthansa, Euronews, DB, ABSL, and many more are among our customers at Mindspace.”—Yotam Alroy, Co-founder and Chief Business Officer at Mindspace
For good reason too. What they offer is more than just a desk and a chair—Mindspace have designed each of their spaces to be as inspiring as the people who work there, by expertly blending form, function and the future of work to create something that’s totally unique for their members.
“Each location is designed as a standalone site, so while there are recurring themes and design elements to make the brand consistent, the spaces are vastly different and always localised. We established an Art & Design team that designs each of our locations, curates local and international art for the space, and also creates original art installations in every one of our spaces. Our business is very much hospitality-oriented and, so our community team is set to support the boutique approach and is larger than the industry average (almost twice the number of community managers per members). It allows us to give more personalised service as well as plan and manage more activities for the community. Lastly, behind the scenes we use our own technology to support members with an app to book meeting rooms and connect with other members, a check-in app for guests and a dashboard for our brokers. We pay close attention to all the communication channels with members and try to make every touch as personalised and unique as possible.” —Dan Zakai

“Being somewhere like Mindspace, with different companies and people, and lots of opportunities to learn and connect has really helped to energise us all again.”—Emily Shenton, Arrival Education
“The community is in a very embryonic stage and we want to be part of that journey from the beginning. I’m glad to have the opportunity to help shape it, rather than joining a community that is already established. The offices are also very convenient and very nice! We like the fact that it feels quite unique and it’s not standardised.” —Nick Morgan, The Fair and We Are Placemaking

Meet Luke—City Lead, Mindspace London
We caught up with Luke Trusselle, City Lead for Mindspace London. He heads up the Mindspace team across both locations and works with each of the community managers to bring the Mindspace experience to life for its London members.
Hi Luke, thanks for chatting with us. For you, what makes Mindspace such a great place to work?
First and foremost, I’d say the people that make up the company, both locally and globally. We are striving to offer our members the best possible customer experience at all times and to that end, the team work tirelessly to provide that—this lays at the core of what makes us truly different. Secondly, I’d say our product is one of the very best. Of course, I’m biased, but that was one of the first things that attracted me to the company and I feel it’s a real privilege to work in one of the best offices in one of the best cities in the world.
Then there’s the workspaces themselves. We’re a premium brand and I think that’s reflected in the furniture and layout we provide—from the phone booths to meeting rooms to the offices, natural light, award-winning design and use of technology—it all adds up to give our members a happier, more productive working environment. The onsite teams work hard to create events and additional benefits that truly add value to our member’s experiences—this helps our members to attract and retain top talent, which is something that is very important in a competitive business environment like London. We understand our clients wants and needs and we deliver what they want—it’s what Mindspace is all about. We consistently deliver one of the best working ecosystems available across all our locations globally, and London is no exception.
What brought Mindspace to London?
London is one of the greatest and culturally diverse cities in the world. It also has one of the most established and competitive serviced office and coworking markets globally and therefore it made sense to us to be there. We initially launched The Relay Building in Aldgate in the winter of 2017 and have since launched our second London location on the fringes of Shoreditch by Liverpool Street station in May 2018. Both with great success, which is a testament to the hard work of our London team.
Which is your favourite Mindspace in London?
I have a soft spot for Aldgate as that is where it all began in this country, but I have to say that my personal favourite is our flagship location at Appold Street, Shoreditch. This space is simply stunning. Right from the entrance to the building up through to our lounges on the 8th & 9th floors—it’s all about creating a great first impression. I often work from the 8th floor lounge just to capture the surprise and impressed faces that come through the door. The design and ambience of Appold Street is what we are trying to emulate as a company and it really is somewhere you would love to work. It has a great feel to it and I think we have perfected the balance between wanting the space to feel busy or full but also relaxed and not overcrowded. Simply put, it is a success story and we have a waiting list of potential clients wanting to base their business there. You can’t get a better compliment than that.
